BACKGROUND
Between 2001 and 2019, Indonesia experienced significant deforestation, losing approximately 24 million hectares of forest. Approximately 75% of the country’s emissions stem from deforestation, making it the 3rd largest contributor to carbon emissions
Indonesia's deforestation rate remains a critical environmental concern, with alarming statistics underscoring the severity of the issue. This loss was driven by factors such as palm oil plantations, logging, and agricultural expansion. The deforestation rate had been a major environmental concern due to its impact on biodiversity, ecosystems, and global carbon emissions, with Indonesia consistently ranking among the top emitters. Between 2000 and 2015, Indonesia was estimated to have emitted about 22% of the world's carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from deforestation and peatland degradation.
WHAT WE DO
To create a sustainable future for Indonesia through transformative forest protection, rehabilitation and conservation programs.
Jaga Planet Indonesia programs are strategically aligned to combat deforestation crisis on multiple fronts. Through advocacy and community partnerships, we aim to mitigate deforestation by promoting sustainable land-use practices and establishing protected areas.
Rigorous monitoring, law enforcement, and technological solutions play a crucial role in protecting existing forests. Furthermore, Jaga Planet Indonesia’s commitment extends to extensive reforestation initiatives, actively engaging in restoring degraded ecosystems to counter balance the environmental impact.
Our programs strive to not only arrest the alarming deforestation rates but also contribute to the global fight against climate change.
